Language learning for the socially concerned second generation (and allies).
I started this project as a labor of love. People close to me know that language learning is an important part of my life. Like many children of immigrants and/or people of color, I’ve always had to do some amount of code-switching, a term which refers to when you switch between languages or ways of speaking depending on your environment or the people around you. I’ve also lived abroad, and taught languages professionally both here and overseas.
Language is a huge part of how we show up in the world.
But learning can be super hard…and pretty awkward. So I’m trying to make it easier for other folks like me who are English dominant, but want to strengthen their skills in other languages to better connect with and serve their communities. No pressure, all love.

A special thanks to Ma-Ma, Ba-Ba, Chander Tseng, and Rita Lo for proofreading; and to @taiwaneseam_org, @amandalhan, @michelleinman, and @dianabunny, for their excellent work on bilingual glossaries which were essential in formulating this new lexicon!
